Gravestone & Monument Cleaning

The Carolinas are notorious for our dense tree coverage and humid conditions. It’s the perfect situation for biological growth. Your typical gravestones made from Granite, Marble, Slate, Sandstone or Limestone are constantly getting broken down by the acids secreted by different types of bio growth. Lichens, Algae, Moss, Fungi and multiple species of Ivy. When the growth lives within the pores of the stone the appearance and life of the Gravestone, Monument, or Marker is being decreased. Treating and cleaning the stones with the proper chemicals is very important. We use cleaning agents certified by the Cemetery Association of America designed to kill the bio growth at the root and restore color and beauty.

Polished granite and more dense stone will usually show great results within the first cleaning. Older gravestones and the more porous stones can take up to 2 weeks for the full results to show. Takes some time for the dark root of bio growth to make its way out of the pores in the stone even after the growth has been effectively treated.

In most cases concerning the old stones, it’s best for us to not strive for a brand new finish but to carefully approach the cleaning with proper chemicals and methods that won’t degrade these one of a kind memorials.
